The Franklin TV storybook Adaptation Distillation of the television story "Franklin Runs Away" has Franklin Turtle carrying a bindle stick loaded with cookies in one hand and his stuffed dog Sam in the other. Hence the kid at the end of The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents, whom Maurice latches onto with the words "Hey, stupid-looking kid! Wanna be Lord Mayor?". Almost any illustrated version of Dick Whittington has a bindle stick. A monk leaving the monastery always carries a book in it.
